About Hatchet

Hatchet replaces traditional task queues like Celery or BullMQ with a durable, observable orchestration engine. Tasks and workflows are defined in code and executed by workers you run; Hatchet handles queueing, retries, timeouts, scheduling and DAG dependencies, and persists everything in PostgreSQL. It offers fairness and concurrency controls (per-key concurrency, rate limits, priorities), event triggers, cron schedules, durable sleep and wait-for-event, plus a real-time dashboard for monitoring runs. Hatchet can be self-hosted or used through Hatchet Cloud.

Key Features

Durable tasks and DAG workflows defined in code
Postgres-backed queueing with retries and timeouts
Concurrency, rate limiting and priority controls per key
Event triggers, cron schedules and durable sleep/wait-for-event
Real-time dashboard with logs and run history
Self-hosted (Hatchet Lite / Helm) or managed Hatchet Cloud

Pros

MIT license and simple Postgres-only dependency
Good replacement for Celery/BullMQ with better observability
Strong fairness and concurrency controls for multi-tenant workloads
Modern SDKs with type safety

Cons

Young project with frequent API changes
Smaller ecosystem and community than Temporal
Postgres can become a bottleneck at very high throughput without tuning
Fewer integrations for data engineering use cases
